Regional co-creation Project

In July 2021, we began building a new city stadium (proposed name: OTA ARENA) that meets B1 LEAGUE criteria in Ota, Gunma, the hometown of the Gunma Crane Thunders, a professional basketball team that is part of the OPEN HOUSE Group, so that they can achieve their goal of becoming No. 1 in Japan in the next few years. Using Japan’s regional revitalization support tax system (corporate hometown tax payments), we plan to build a high-spec arena while limiting the burden on the local government and private sector. The Gunma Crane Thunders, the city of Ota, and OPEN HOUSE are joining forces to work to resolve regional issues. Additionally, we aim to build a dream arena that attracts attention from all over Japan and to create a leading example of sports being utilized for regional co-creation.

Through cooperation among industry, government, academia, and financial institutions, the OPEN HOUSE Group will promote the town development projects to resolve issues facing Minakami. Minakami is located in the northernmost part of Gunma prefecture. With excellent access from the Tokyo metropolitan area and rich natural resources, the town focuses on tourism and agriculture and attracts around four million people annually. In June 2017, Minakami was registered as a UNESCO Eco Park as a global model area for the coexistence of people and nature.
However, due to the social issue of Japan’s declining population and aging society, Minakami’s population is declining annually, mainly among the younger generation, and the town is losing its vibrancy. By implementing various measures under the town development projects in Minakami through cooperation among industry, government, academia, and financial institutions, we aim to revitalize the entire region through synergies.

We are active in the Minakami UNESCO Eco Park.

Minakami also faces common regional issues including an aging population, aging buildings, and a shortage of financial resources. To realize a sustainable society, the OPEN HOUSE Group has concluded an agreement with Minakami, Gunma Bank, and The University of Tokyo, with the goal of taking a multifaceted approach to resolving issues that cannot be resolved individually. Through cooperation among industry, government, academia, and financial institutions, we will demolish or rebuild dilapidated buildings and make effective use of existing facilities. Through these efforts, we aim to preserve the regional culture and create a next-generation model of revival to stimulate tourism and the economy in Minakami.

Open House Group has taken over the business of Hodaigi Ski Resort, which is the core of tourism in northern Gunma Prefecture.

Gunma Minakami Hodaigi Ski Resort posted the final deficit for the fifth consecutive year from 2016 to 20 due to the effects of the declining ski population and the Korona-ka, and the business was sluggish and reinvestment was difficult. The Open House Group will take over the business and change the name to Gunma Minakami Hodaigi Ski Resort to maintain the employment of employees, improve the management of the ski resort, and improve the surrounding facilities to improve the city center. We aim to be a snow resort where people gather not only from the world but also from all over the world.

[Achievements after business succession]
Ski resorts: In the 21-22 season, we held Omiai lift and slope street piano events to differentiate ourselves from other ski resorts and attracted more than 110,000 visitors. We are steadily preparing to make the ski resort more attractive for next season.

Campsite: Held a "Big Cage" event. We have created a new world view of creating the largest insect cage in the world and having fun in it. From the perspective of SDGs, we are particular about local production for local consumption and are proceeding in partnership with local companies.

The OPEN HOUSE Group aims to breathe new life into the former site of Kiryu Minami High School, which closed in March 2021, and to revitalize the entire area.
The city of Kiryu, Gunma, is surrounded by abundant nature and has a history of prospering as the industrial district of “Shokuto, Kiryu” and the baseball district of “Kyuto, Kiryu.”
Our plan is to repurpose the school facilities, which are special to local residents, into multipurpose facilities with lodging, telework offices, and sport facilities, in order to attract many different people to the area. In doing so, we aim to make full use of the site’s regional characteristics and provide a space that encourages local exchange.

In June 2019, the OPEN HOUSE Group announced its management participation in Gunma Pro Basketball Commission Co., Ltd., the operating company of the Gunma Crane Thunders.
In May 2021, the Gunma Crane Thunders won the B2 regular season in the East District, the fastest regular season win with the most consecutive wins in league history, 33. In the B2 PLAYOFFS 2020-2021, they won the championship and secured their promotion to the B1 LEAGUE next season.
While continuing to promote regional contributions through activities rooted in the local community, we will realize one of our corporate philosophies to “attract a wide range of motivated people and create an organization that rewards results” and will continue to support the Gunma Crane Thunders.

Japan is blessed with a lush, green landscape, but intensifying natural disasters and a decline in forestry workers have caused the land not to be appropriately maintained.
The OPEN HOUSE Group, which sells wooden houses, feels a sense of responsibility to address these issues, and has decided to engage in forest management activities at Gunma Insect World. By eliciting the participation of various stakeholders, including not only our employees, but also students and players from the Gunma Crane Thunders, we plan to continue activities that provide many people with the opportunity to feel the importance of forests.
Throughout the entire group, we are actively engaged in establishing a cycle of “cutting, using, and planting.” While working to maintain the multifaceted capabilities of forests (reducing greenhouse gases, cultivating water sources, and preserving biodiversity), we will contribute to the realization of a carbon-free society.
